A Problem with Men is Not Knowing the Difference Between Rights and Responsibilities

We live in a world of virtue signalling and victimhood.

The new age woke/communist way is to make societies more dependent on the government. That means more overreaching government legislation and handouts for the poor. This creates a victim mentality and a disincentive for citizens to strive to be independent, resourceful, and educated.

The vitreous shout about the rights of others who are supposedly too weak to stand up for themselves.

The irony is that many choose to act as victims and outsource the fight to the wealthy crusaders seeking to impress their friends.

Virtue signalling is very rarely anything more than hot air and bluster. When it comes to taking action, the big mouths disappear like hotcakes at a fair.

What is left is a group of disgruntled victims who have another reason to complain about how the world is out to get them.

What if instead of trying to rescue others, we spend time educating people about their rights and responsibilities as citizens?

For every right, there is an equal and opposite responsibility.

A right to free speech comes with the responsibility to use your words wisely.

The right to personal safety comes with the responsibility to be vigilant.

Notice how these rights don’t require another party to do anything. Saying you have a right to a job means that someone else must employ you. If you can’t add value, why should anyone employ you?

Demanding the right to education requires someone else to educate you. Why should anyone do that without suitable compensation? It can’t be a right.

This is the tip of the iceberg. What lies beneath the water is complicated. Becoming a responsible citizen is about knowing your rights and standing up for them. It is not about outsourcing your responsibility to the virtue signallers who are in it for the quick fix.

The first call is to look in the mirror and take responsibility for your life. Once you have done that, then you can fight for the rights of others.
